Gathering & Potential Legal Cases:
1. Disability Rights Advocates (DRA),
a non-profit legal center, is investigating complaints throughout NYC regarding
barriers that people with mobility impairments & people who are blind or
have low vision have encountered at areas of construction or other work zones
along pedestrian routes. When pedestrian paths are closed or partially blocked
due to construction, maintenance, or other conditions, any pedestrian detours or
the unblocked remaining pathway must be accessible. If you have a mobility
impairment, are blind, or have low vision, and have experienced any of the
following barriers when pedestrian pathways are affected by construction or
other activities, we would like to hear from you: or call We would appreciate

2. Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) is
researching construction site sidewalk access barriers. If you encounter a
construction site that blocks your access to the sidewalk, and there is no
accessible alternative, we want to know about it! Please send photos of
obstructions to peddetours@dralegal.org with its
address in your email’s subject line or send a detailed description & its
location. Responses will be kept confidential unless the individual authorizes
their release. Examples of barriers include: Ramps that are too steep, poorly
constructed, or have a lip that prevents a wheelchair user to safely use the
ramp; Construction sites mark dangerous areas & paths of travel in a way
that people who have low vision or are blind will not understand the warning.

customers who have mobility disabilities and/or short stature concerning
inaccessible point-of-sale devices (card swipes). Customers can't see the amount
being charged, enter their PIN, or sign the screen. DRA has heard similar

4. DRA SEEKS RELAY SERVICE TEST-CALLERS Disability
Rights Advocates (DRA) is seeking volunteers to make relay service "test calls"
to financial service and telecommunication companies and briefly record their
experiences. With your help, we can end discrimination against relay service
callers! Are you willing to volunteer about 1 hour of your time to call 5
companies? We need your help to identify which companies are not accepting relay
service calls, and which companies are not providing the same level of service

6. A law firm has filed a national class action on behalf of
the disabled against Amtrak, based on Amtrak's failure to comply with the
mandate of Congress to bring their 482 passenger rail stations into compliance
